The world of art and copyrights – Jon Duenas... →
jonduenas:
I’m seriously raging about that painting. Pakayla Biehn used my photo without permission to make a derivative painting, and then sold it for $1600.

Little Big Burger.
Last night Dave and I headed to the Pearl to feast at Micah Camden’s new joint, Little Big Burger. It didn’t disappoint. If you aren’t familiar with Camden’s name and you live in Portland, let me familiarize you. In the last few years he’s opened the Japanese influenced Yakuza*, Italian eatery DOC and British pub inspired Fats. He also opened Beast with Naomi Pomeroy. All of these...

A collaboration between my boyfriend Dave and I. Dave’s polaroid is on the left, mine on the right.
Whalen Island.
Marcella Hazan’s tomato sauce is my favorite. It’s perfect for a rainy (almost) fall evening. I added a parmesan romano rind tonight for a little extra flavor.

My feet get around.
Heat Wave.
The air has been so thick it halts one’s movements like molasses. It’s the kind of heat where all you can eat is liquid. Where the contents of my west facing medicine cabinet are warm to the touch. Where upon arrival home, I strip down to my underwear, sit in the shadows of my closed blinds and practice my best frozen statue skills. The ODOT sign above the Banfield freeway has been...

Berry nice.
Yesterday afternoon Dave and I headed out to Sauvie Island to enjoy the sunshine and do a little berry picking at Columbia Farms. We spent an hour or so staining our fingers in strawberry and blueberry juice. $6.50 was all we spent for the above haul and we enjoyed ourselves so much we might just go again next weekend.

A road trip to Portland.
Last fall I flew from Portland to Denver to accompany one of my favorite people, Lindsay, on her drive to Portland, where she was moving. Upon landing, I hopped in her car with a change of clothes and a backpack full of cameras. Our journey took us through a sunny Colorado, a snowstorm in Wyoming, a gorgeous evening in Utah, a hot afternoon in Idaho and a very long road in Oregon. These are some...

Creature of habit.
Bending your arms in all the wrong positions to fit with mine, elbowing you in an attempt to stop your snoring, hogging the sheets that smell of yesterday’s sex, listening to the sounds the morning makes when you just want it to be still. Wish you were here.

A visit to the arboretum with Aya.
Last month I went to Seattle to visit the lovely miss Aya Sato.
We spent a rainy weekend taking polaroids, drinking coffee and eating pho. We also spent a good chunk of times at the arboretum at Volunteer Park. I wouldn’t mind living there.

Lately:
Attempting to sleep in, pet names, candy watermelon slices, sea foam green nails, crossing my fingers for tan lines, dirty feet, 143, 400 speed film, Broder Cafe, “insert excited air grabs here”, open windows, the baby dance, happiness induced cheek spasms, neighborhood walks, peonies, blood orange sorbet, Whiskeytown blasting in the Mini, cold brew from Stumptown, Google hearts,...

The things I’ve been loving and savoring these past few weeks are the kinds of things you leave out the second time a story is told. It’s finally coming back to me again, that feeling. A razor blade couldn’t even remove this silly smile from my face. I want to save every little moment and bottle them up along my window sill. I best be collecting some bottles.
